Hands & Feet Donation

For quite a few years now the Mowbray and Rondebosch GFC’s have donated money to buy ethical food for the Community Dinners which are held at St Peters Mowbray every Thursday. They are now at the point where they collect R3000-R4000 per month for this incredible outreach.

As Good Food Clubs, we have always had many convictions (supporting local food producers, making good food easily accessible etc.) and we are at a place where we feel moved to do something similar to our founding Clubs and what better way than support something a member of our group is directly involved in.

Tessa Gardener (a member of our club), Leanne Porter (South Peninsula GFC owner) and a few other awesome people run the NPO, Hands and Feet, and this is the community the Meadowridge Good Food Club has chosen to support.

This is what Tessa had to say: “Hands and Feet are all about restoring vulnerable communities by nurturing children and empowering their families to stay together and thrive.

We use a trauma-informed, interdisciplinary approach of Occupational Therapy, Social Work and Education to implement community-based Family Preservation work.

We work closely with Hope Educare Centre in 7de Laan, Strandfontein, and run a weekly Moms and Babies group and regularly host Parenting workshops. We also co-run an Afterschool programme. We always have snacks and refreshments at our gatherings and we serve a full meal for families to eat together at our Strengthening Families programme. We believe in showing warm hospitality, and we want to acknowledge that many of the community members we’re working with don’t eat three meals a day. We want to offer healthy options and we try to provide delicious fruit like naartjies and apples to assist in the better nutrition of the community.

Our website is still a holding page: www.handsandfeet.org.za but we keep our current news on FB and Instagram: handsandfeet.org.za.

From August, we will be offering our members the opportunity to add a R30 donation for Hands & Feet to their basket. Your R30 covers one persons main meal at the Strengthening Families/Parenting Programme. You can include this in your order in multiples of 30. Our club will then donate this money to Tessa, with which she will buy ethical food from our suppliers.
